DESIGN – 58,000 SF new construction, health care facility.  The building was designed from the inside out, focusing on the special needs of residents with dementia.  The building consists of two “neighborhoods” that are home to 52 residents and a “Central Activity” space that serves as gathering space for the entire facility.  The “neighborhoods” are designed based on a residential scale, as compared to a institutional scale.  Every effort has been made to design the space to resemble the accommodations of a typical home.  The Central Activity space was designed to resemble a shopping mall, complete with retail stores, café’, and theater.
